Coca-Cola products donated to Okayama City Social Welfare Council in support of the creation of children's places

Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. donated 480 Coca-Cola products to the Okayama City Social Welfare Council at Okayama City Health and Welfare Hall on September 9 (Wed).

The donation was realized through a talk between Okayama City and Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. regarding their respective initiatives on SDGs, during which we suggested to provide our products to the Okayama City Social Welfare Council who helps the creation of places for children as part of its child-support program. The donated products will be distributed to children's cafeterias in Okayama City.

Creation of children's places - Okayama City Social Welfare Council

As welfare issues and needs increasingly diversify and become more complex in recent years, children also face difficulties, including poverty, isolation, and withdrawal.

The Okayama City Social Welfare Council works with local groups and entities to engage in welfare activities, based on its basic philosophy of "creating a community for everyone to live actively through participation and support by all citizens." In June 2018, the Council set up a "consultation desk for the creation of children's places" in six ward offices in Okayama City to assist such creation and provide meals, study support, etc.

Children's places usually refer to such spaces that are not school or home but that make children feel safe to use by himself/herself alone, including "children's cafeteria" that offers meals to children and their caretakers in the community; "play park" that helps children create their own ways of playing with nature and seasons; and "study support" that assists children with education and learning. The "consultation desks for the creation of children's places" help those who want to offer or support such places.

[Comments from Okayama City Social Welfare Council Chairperson Uchida]

"The environment for children is increasingly becoming difficult in times of COVID-19 crisis. However, when I think about children smiling and enjoying the drinks in such cute, memorable bottles, it makes me very happy. It is our pleasure to help the children feel encouraged even a little and smile. We will continue to stay positive and strive to connect the children and people in the community for their happy lives."
