In response to the ever-changing social environment amid the spread of COVID-19, Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. continues to work on various community revitalization efforts with top priority on the health of all stakeholders.
In response to the changing social landscape caused by the spread of COVID-19, we worked with Ryukoku University to donate approximately 1,000 Coca-Cola products to their Fukakusa, Seta and Omiya campuses. The university recently established a "student support fund" as emergency aid measures for students living away from home and international students.
University students and the effects of COVID-19
In response to government encouragement to refrain from going out and to telecommute as measures to prevent COVID-19, we have seen drastic changes in how we live and work in these past several months. COVID-19 has also had significant impact on university students, who would normally be working hard on their studies and extracurricular activities. These days, classes are basically conducted online, and club activities and other extracurricular activities have been put on hold.
Eating and drinking establishments have also experienced drastic drops in traffic with the spread of COVID-19. And as many establishments closed shop in response to government request, many students have lost their source of income from part-time work.
Furthermore, the state of emergency declaration called for people to refrain from traveling across prefectures, and many students have not been able to go home until a decline in the number of newly infected patients and are spending each day in anxiety.
To help such students who have been economically and emotionally affected, the government ordained a proposed aid to donate up to 200,000 yen, and other organizations have offered to provide food.
Ryukoku University has also launched emergency aid measures for students living alone and for international students, including distribution of fresh foods and "COOP lunch tickets" for the use of lunch services at the university's COOP. Students can now use COOP cafeterias for a well-balanced nutritious meal.
The university also has a "student support fund in response to COVID-19" to encourage student aid. To help such activities, Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan donated approximately 1,000 Coca-Cola products.
On receiving food items and Coca-Cola products, a student commented, "I was happy to receive pre-packed foods and many fresh vegetables. And this time, I was even happier to receive my favorite drink Coca-Cola. It's getting hotter these days, so I plan to enjoy a nicely cooled Coke!"
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan continues to support the people working on the front line to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and those who support the daily lives of the people amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as those working to tackle community issues.
