For the First Time after the Foundation of CCBJI, Aseptic Production Line Completed at Kyoto Plant!

Responding to increasing demand for PET bottle drinks along with changing consumer preferences

Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. (Headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President Calin Dragan; hereafter “CCBJI”) held on Thursday, May 25 the ceremony to commemorate the completion of an aseptic (aseptic filling) line for PET bottle products, for the first time after the establishment of CCBJI in 2017, at Kyoto Plant (Kumiyamacho, Kuse County, Kyoto).

This new aseptic production line features high-speed production, capable of processing 900 bottles per minute. This was adopted to respond to increasing demand in western Japan region, mainly for supply to Keihanshin area. With the new line, the first after the inception of CCBJI, now completed in Kyoto, CCBJI will start its new product supply framework, to distribute high-value added products, such as Georgia Japan Craftsman with growing demand.

As market conditions have changed bewilderingly, consumer preference for package has also been rapidly shifting from can to PET bottle. To meet such market need, CCBJI has planned and executed the installation of aseptic (aseptic filling) lines for PET bottle drinks, mainly coffee and tea. However, its Hongo plant located in the western Japan (Mihara City, Hiroshima) that had three production lines was hit and damaged by the extraordinary rains in July last year. In addition, earlier end of the rainy season than the average year, combined with record-setting high temperatures, negatively affected its product supply capacity. Now CCBJI is working to stabilize its production and supply by installing additional seven aseptic lines by the spring of 2020, in a phased but steady manner.

CCBJI will continue to deliver safe and reliable Coca-Cola products to the people in the communities, by installing new lines as planned toward enhancing its production and supply capabilities to meet ever-changing consumer needs.
