Responsible for developing and promoting strategies for resources, a key sustainability issue

In light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocated by the United Nations, the Coca-Cola system in Japan* has identified “respect for diversity,” “local communities,” and “resources” as three major sustainability themes, and is working on nine priority issues within these themes. My mission is to develop and promote strategies for projects across the Coca-Cola system in Japan, including our company, related to the priority issues of resources, mainly containers/PET bottles and greenhouse gas emissions. For example, in the area of greenhouse gas emissions, we set a new target in October 2021 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and I am responsible for assisting everyone at the company in achieving the numerical targets for the next fiscal year and the processes for achieving them.

Question 2

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Engage in challenging work while learning and growing

Our efforts are attracting a great deal of attention from society and industry. At the same time, however, it is a basic premise that our efforts must be promoted in tandem with economic activities, and I am aware of the difficulty of finding the right balance between the two when carrying out projects. Overcoming these difficulties and contributing to the realization of a sustainable society and the enhancement of corporate value is a job that I find very worthwhile and take pride in. In this field, it is also important to keep abreast of changes in the external environment, so it is essential to be proactive in gathering information. I feel that the work environment is a good match for me because it allows me to embody one of our MVV values, “Learning: always learning and growing.”

Question 3

Why did you decide to join the company and what are your future goals?

Promoting sustainability and contributing to the enhancement of corporate value

I decided to join the company because I wanted to be involved in the sustainability of a leading company in the beverage industry, and because I was able to talk frankly about the nature of the work, working style, and atmosphere of the company during the interview. That impression has not changed since I joined the company, and I continue to sense the integrity of our employees and the open culture of the company in my work. We work on projects together with many departments and employees, and everyone takes pride in the Coca-Cola brand and Coca-Cola products. I hope that I can respond to this sentiment and show more leadership than ever in the area of sustainability, and continue to contribute to the company.
