With the help of the students of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, “Let's Enjoy Environmental Studies in a Foreign Language 2019” was held at Ecola Bldg., the Kyoto plant tour facility, in which participants learn about the environment in various languages.
The theme of this session was “Create the future～be an environmental master～”.
On this day, nearly 90 elementary school students and their parents took part in the event, attending the plant tour, taking part in quizzes, watching a play by the university students and creating an eco-bag, as they had fun learning about familiar environmental issues including the importance of water, sorting trash, and the need to reduce plastic bags.
The event starts with a self-introduction!
In the theater, participants took quizzes on familiar topics like how much water is used for daily necessities!
Next is the plant tour!
Everyone listens to the tour guide explaining about the production process.
After watching a play, the children try to sort different drink containers.
If sorted properly, they become resources!
Learning about plastic bag issues in groups, and creating an original eco-bag.
We need to value our water, sort the trash, use eco-bags…
The participants are certified as “environmental masters” since they are now capable of putting into action what they learned at the event.
At the end of the event, we received many comments: “I love English and it was great to be able to speak English,” “It was good to learn many things about the environment,” “I learned words from many different countries.”
To all our participants and the people of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies who supported the event, thank you so much!
